The Mystical Garden is a symbolic representation of the spiritual life and the human journey toward God.
The composition presents a landscape where visible reality and spiritual reality coexist. The garden itself represents creation: beautiful, abundant, and filled with signs that point beyond themselves.
Throughout the work appear symbols of the principal forces that accompany human life: worldly attachments, temptation, distraction, grace, truth, and redemption. The serpent represents evil and its deceptions; the rabbit symbolizes souls absorbed by earthly concerns; while Christ appears as the true path that leads man toward the Father.
The Church is presented as the guardian and transmitter of that path, preserving the truth revealed by Christ throughout history.
More than illustrating a narrative, the painting functions as a symbolic map of the spiritual life, inviting the viewer to contemplate the relationship between the visible world and the eternal destiny for which man was created.
